Recapping Devcon VI: Highlights, Resources, and Final Thoughts!

A few weeks ago in October, the Ethereum community came together in South America for Devcon VI in Bogotá, Colombia! We want to express our gratitude to every attendee, volunteer, and contributor that made Devcon VI a success. In this blog post, we will recap the highlights of the event, including insightful talks and panels, Community Hubs, the Road to Devcon, and more. You can refresh your memory and enjoy the Devcon VI vibe by watching the Recap Video.

For those new to the Ethereum family, Devcon is an annual conference held by the Ethereum Foundation, dating back to a small meetup in Berlin (ÐΞVcon-0) about a year prior to Ethereum’s first blocks. Devcon is a family reunion for some, while for others it’s a stage to learn about the latest breakthroughs in the Ethereum space.

Devcon serves the community by providing a unique place to collaborate, share knowledge, generate new ideas, and send a message about Ethereum to the world. This year, we emphasized collaboration and knowledge sharing by providing workshop rooms, co-work areas, and hacker basements for attendees to work together. Devcon VI also hosted Devcon Satellite Events around the world.

Additionally, Devcon emphasized teaching, communicating, and generating new ideas. People traveled to Devcon to understand the cutting edge in the Ethereum space and share their knowledge with a large audience. The event also featured Community Hubs and Impact Booths, fostering a diverse and collaborative environment.

Devcon was also an opportunity to use tech built on Ethereum through “dogfooding” – using tools built by the community. Attendees participated in an on-chain raffle and auction and were able to pay for their hotel rooms using crypto. The Devcon Archive was hosted on more open and robust platforms as a result of partnerships with Swarm and Etherna.

The event also aimed to grow the Ethereum ecosystem and reach more local communities around the world. The Latin American Ethereum community organized about 14 community events leading up to Devcon VI in Bogotá, demonstrating the impact Ethereum can have in South America.

Overall, Devcon VI was a huge success, and we are grateful to everyone who made it possible. It was a testament to the strength and diversity of the Ethereum community and showcased the cutting edge technology and ideas shaping the future of Ethereum and blockchain.
